Strategic
Direction
Yonge Nawe has embarked on a new strategic direction after 14 years of environmental education and awareness raising primarily among schools, communities, general public and demonstration projects. This has been a demanding process, as Yonge Nawe has to ensure that she will rise with the challenges of her new strategic focus as well as maintain the good working relationships with her historic partners. Over the past year Yonge Nawe been engaged in an extensive consultative and strategic reflection process with her key stakeholders on how she could equip herself to meet with challenges in the changing external environment. Internally she had to look at her capacities and match these with the demands of the external environment. In this regard Yonge Nawe is implementing a two stringed development strategy aimed at meeting both internal and external capacity demands. More so Yonge Nawe has to ensure that environment issues are integrated in development processes of the country. Yonge Nawe’s strategic direction is a collaborative programming with the Danish Cooperation on Environment and Development (DANCED). Danced will assist Yonge Nawe to continue and expand her environmental and education awareness raising programme so that a critical mass of capacity can be developed within Yonge Nawe, in her network of partners such as NGOs, CBOs and other partners of civil society. Yonge Nawe hopes to see an enhanced and sustainable civil society that is positively contributing to sustainable natural resources and environmental management in Swaziland as a result of her interventions. These interventions include environmental education services directed at the formal educational system, lobbying of policy makers, education and mobilization of communities through environmental actions, outreach services to communities, radio programme, information center and networking. Yonge Nawe is grateful to the Danced for investing three years of core support that will enable her to continue to make significant contribution in promoting environmental action in Swaziland. |
